The hardware prototyping for the G4G event is progressing in parallel with the development of the robot simulator software.
In order to add more educational value, the missions will be all about programming Mars rovers from Earth. Why? Because it’s important to understand that robots cannot be programmed just be trial and error. First develop and test, then, being sure at 200% that the software is working well, the program is sent to the robot. The signal delay between Earth and Mars is around 10 minutes (20 minutes for a round trip), so commanding the robot in real-time is not possible anyway.
